It’s been a while now since I’ve introduced Playsam’s Streamliner and Xtreamliner cars on SunnyKidstyle, so now it’s definitely time to come back to this fabulous Swedish company and tell you, which other great products they have in store, because all of them share a magnificent, modern and simple design.
Just take a look at their Airliner and Jetliner series, just as beautifully designed as the Streamliner, only that this time, the outcome is not a little toy car, but an airplane. For those kids who like it even faster, they have a Formula 1 and an oldtimer racer in their collection, while budding little sailors will surely enjoy the beautiful sailboats.
And the good news don’t finish there quite yet, because Playsam has just the perfectly designed item for each family member: Your littlest ones will surely enjoy the Swedes’ interesting twist to rocking toys with this rocking rabbit, or this beautiful Saab ride-on, while teenagers or adults might be more tempted by these gorgeous JoJos,pens and key chains.
Design buffs on the other hand will surely fall for their incredible Playtown and Saab 001 concept car: Not that all of Playsam’s items aren’t masterpieces of design already, but especially these last two products are modern art in perfection and would make the perfect sculpture to display in your living room! The polished wooden pieces of the Playtown represent the four most characteristic sights of Sweden’s capital Copenhagen, i.e. The City Hall, Kaknaes Tower, The Globe and The Royal Castle. The superb quality of this set shows in the details: The City Hall’s crown is made of silver and palted with 23 carat gold! On the other hand the Saab 001 model is inspired by Sixten Saxon’s prototype of the Saab Concept Car 92001, which did not look like a normal car, but was futuristic and aerodynamic design in perfection. The modern design of this wooden toy, or rather piece of art, brings the charm of the origninal Saab home with its wonderful sophisticated design. Check them out yourself:
While researching Playsam’s products, I found even more interesting things: In 2006 Fitzsu Society, a Los Angeles based store for modern design home accessories, had gathered a group of designers from around the world to create their own interpretation of Playsam’s cars. While the most beautiful products are of course sold by now, I could still find a few beautiful ones available:

New week, new topic: owls. There is such a nice variety of children’s design depicting owls. I really don’t know why there is this focus, and why we don’t see more children’s items with, flamingos or lynxes, they are pretty, too. But in any case, there is some really adorable owl design available. And moving back to Scandinavia, in fact to be more specific, to a company named More of Scandinavia (now that’s telling isn’t it?), I want to present you some great looking tableware and anything else, a toddler needs to learn how to feed himself. As usual, the Swede’s got it right again, creating a design that is childfriendly, but not cheesy, and still classy and timeless.
Also, More of Scandinavia has a nice collection in general, not just for kids. So if you are looking to spice up the dining room with a bit of new crockery, check out their entire collection of modern flatware.
Available at Scandinavian Design Center, if you can only find the mug, select the other items out of the drop-down “choose between” menu. Mug and plate available in black, bib and place mat in each red and green.

Well, I decided to have a regional focus on Sweden today, since there is such a great variety of inspiring children’s design coming from this country. And which other toy-maker could be more synonymous for great, timeless toy design than Playsam‘s streamliners, small wooden cars with the look and feel of a modern design classic, and excellently reflecting Playsam’s philosophy of producing toys that are “Classic and contemporary. Fanciful and functional. Simple and sophisticated.”
Though their toys are certainly not the cheapest compared to other wooden toys, the combination of great quality and timeless design will surely make them not only a child’s, but also a parent’s favorite, and a treasured heirloom for centuries. Moreover, if you consider the longevity of Playsam toys and the fact that no batteries or electricity is needed, these wooden favorites may actually be less expensive in the long-run than some cheap battery-operated competitors. Well, for the environmental impact, this is true in any case. So now you can have a good conscience and buy some eco-friendly toys without having to compromise style. Now isn’t that invaluable?
Available at ScandinavianDesignCenter, starting at € 36,56 for the Streamliner Classic Organic.

The second great design find for today also comes from Sweden. Aren’t these stroller bags called ‘retro revolution’ and ‘cherry blossom birds’ just awesome? They are made by Elodie Details and feature not just great design, but true functionality as well, for example compatibility with a 5-point harness and a wind and water repellent nylon surface.
This hip brand also has some other chic design in store: For strolling in style, in the same cool retro revolution theme, you can also get also get baby bottles, binkies & clips. Plus, there are many other great styles available, such as this petit royal sippy cup below.

There is something about Scandinavian design that is simply intriguing:unique patterns in fresh colors without the tipical frills often seen on children’s apparel. Instead, these clothes will not only become a child’s favorite, but a parent’s too! How great is that: no little bunnies or bears constantly gaping at you, and all made of quality material, sure to last many years of wear and tear.
An excellent example of the advantages of Scandinavian children’s fashion is Plastisock. Admittedly, they have a strange sounding name, but their designs are truly unique. And to top it of, Plastisock’s design motivation was to overcome the gender divide in kids’ fashion. So now, boys and girls can be dressed equally in style. This is good news for parents, as Plastisock hand-me-downs will look great on any new addition to the family.
